Masters degree, important or not?

College students who go further in education are more likely able to get a higher paying job, rather than people who just earned a bachelors degree. This is because it appears that a bachelors is just like a high school diploma in today's society, because of the economy.

  1. I probably will attend grad school... it definitely helps in terms of getting promoted and what not once I start working… pretty much everyone has an undergrad degree ….having an undergrad now is kind of the equivalent of what a High School diploma used to be years ago…masters degree makes you stand out from the crowd just a little more!

  2. The economy has definitely affected the value of a Bachelor's degree, especially with fewer job availability and increased education needed to obtain these few jobs. However, I think the importance of a Master's degree depends on your respective field. For instance if you are pre-law, graduate education and passage of the bar exam are essential to practice law in your region. Doctors need years of schooling before they can practice. Even my field of accounting now requires a master's degree to sit for the CPA exam. Could you get a favorable job without a Master's degree? Yes of course. Only 1% of the world earns a Bachelor's degree which illustrates that although Bachelor's degrees seems devalued as of late, they are still a rarity. I feel if you want to get to that second tier of positions with a higher salary and make yourself stand out in a more competitive job market, I think a Master's degree is the way to do that.

  3. I believe going for an MBA after earning your Bachelor's depends on what you want to do for a living. If your going to be a teacher, nurse, or work in finance then it is absolutely necessary. However, I work in media sales and an MBA is useless. I work with managers and CEOs who barely finished college yet still earn a high salary because they took an entry level position out of college and worked their tail off to get promoted. That being said, given the economic climate that consists of hiring freezes and layoffs it might pay to go for your MBA just to buy time until the jobs come back.

  4. I believe a masters degree is important, because with the economy being as horrible as it is now, a person with just a bachelor's degree or associate degree will not get you anywhere financially. But then again, how the economy is now, even doctors don't make as much money as they used to. So, is a masters degree important now, maybe, maybe not. I guess it all depends on the field the person is studying. And according to the income you get according to the degree of the field.

  5. Obtaining a masters degree is extremely important in this economy. Depending on the field of interest the student is pursuing, a masters degree may or many not be important. In most cases it is because companies are now looking to extract future employees with the most amount of education. A master's degree will most benefit in the job searching process and increase the amount of money made each year.
